The enormous black artwork, covering a big part of the building's front, was leaving no doubts. This was not going to be an exhibition easy to understand or even to accept. But art is not always pleasant. At least not in a recreational way. Some of the greatest masterpieces have arise through the darkest thoughts of their creators.
In this case, the artist herself is a friend and we would have gone to see her work anyway :)
And of course, take a few photographs too!

The old building was transformed by a combination of paintings, video and installations that were giving us a glimpse into the artist’s mind. I’ll share some of her own words below:
Sometimes seen as a cocoon
(ready to create new life),
sometimes seen as a piece of “slaughtered” meat that has just been hanged
(a recent past, still alive).
I wonder if it stands as an independent finalised project or it is just a mere stage in the process of creating something new, a pause in time.
Is its content what matters?
Or the image it carries?
The encapsulation of a process?
Or its independent presence?
It is impossible to capture this project accurately with photography. Two dimensions are very few for a work that extends through space and time in a truly unconventional way. The video performance, the eerie atmosphere of the, wrapped in plastic, house, the oversized paintings, they are all elements that you have to be there, in order to fully grasp it.
In the picture above, I left the camera on the tripod and entered the scene myself, as a point of comparison to the size of the paintings and the room.
It has been a long time since that day, to remember exactly what it felt like being in there, observing but at the same time being part of the installation. Actually it was in August of 2017, a few months before I start blogging here and share my captures with you. So this shooting remained forgotten into my hard drive until today that I stumbled upon it while I was looking for something else.
And I figured that some of you might be interested in seeing it!
As the dusk was coming, I stepped outside for the last picture of the day at the entrance of the building before I put the camera back in its bag and go to the balcony were the artist and a few more friends were having a glass of wine!

The camera that I used is a Canon EOS 7D with a Sigma EF-S 10-20mm f/4-5.6 zoom lens attached. I edited the photographs in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic
