Nothing is an absence of something. A box which contains nothing does not exist because it contains air. That box only contain nothing, but air. What if a box that contains absolutely nothing does exist?
So which of the "nothing" we are referring to? A mathematical concept like Zero or an empty set? A vacuum state in space or some strange quantum theory of it? Null type in programming language?
In language, it is just a word which end up in a very long philosophical and scientific discussion. Yet, I am very certain that we know absolutely nothing about nothing.
Just do a Google search about it, then you will see the many definition of it which in Western culture had conflicting definition for 2 thousand years plus. So, again it convinced me to believe we know absolutely nothing about nothing.
But in a conversation I just keep the definition of nothing in a simple way. Like when people ask me: "What are you doing now?" My answer will be:"Nothing man." Which really means I don't want to talk about it.
So "nothing" in a conversation level for me have relative meanings. It can relatively be like relativism, like "whatever dude". Maybe Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski or Jeff Bridges can answer the deeper secret of nothing.
