Gardening Report - Vegetables

It's the end of August and almost the end of the gardening season too as it doesn't last all year. We have four seasons and October is chilly already. Sometimes we're lucky to have a long Indian summer from September to October, but this is up to mother nature, nothing is ever guaranteed.

Today I'd like to show you what's left of the garden. We're still ok, everything is going according to plan, nothing to complain about.We're used to being content with what we have anyway as complaining does no good to anyone.

Tomatoes

As always, let's start with my favorites, tomatoes!

For these delicious red beauties it's mid season, there's still a good month left if things go as they should.

I keep saying there's nothing better than harvesting your own homegrown, organic, delicious tomatoes.

Unfortunately a good part of the tomatoes are still wearing the marks of the hail storm.

We're lucky these are for consumption and not for sale, as then it would be a problem.

This is one of my favorites, it tastes heavenly good.

And this is the other one.

Cucumber

The cucumber season on the other hand is over. We've had a good year, even though the snails made some damage at the beginning of the season, we've had plenty cucumbers.

These are more like a joke. Look at the size of them. My neighbor has a pig called Susie, so these huge cucumbers are going to feed her.

Watermelon

This one has survived the hail storm and growing, but I don't know if it's going to be big enough, or sweet enough. If not, Susie will get another threat.

Squash

Squashes are still growing nicely, although their season is starting to end.

This year we had two types, the round one is new as I've never seen it before in the garden, or can't remember it, but it's good.

Cabbage

Here's a healthy looking cabbage, still dewy. I've been cooking a lot of vegetable soups lately and cabbage is one of the main ingredient. This would be perfect but it still needs to grow.

Cauliflower

This year, yet again we got these ugly looking cauliflowers. Now I'm starting to believe the soil is not suitable for them. It's still edible but looks ugly.

Pumpkin

Pumpkins are growing nicely but these still need some time, they will be ready around Halloween though.

These were trying to hide but did a crappy job a i was still able to find them.

Peppers

Peppers are getting ready, we could harvest some, but the rest still need some time.

This is the work of the hailstorm. Maybe we can salvage 20% of these, but you never know what's inside, so most of the time the whole pepper goes into the compost.
