DESIGNS IN ICE
the other day i was out walking along the open rocky coast not far from my house. the weather had been switching above and below zero for some days such that the pools of water in shady areas were frozen while in more sunny places they were not. this particular day was sunny and cold but the ice had been forming and thawing repeatedly creating many interesting designs.
in this edited photo the ice had only begun to thaw in the sun along the stone at the southern edge.
with the stone cropped away, i adjusted the contrast and highlights and liked the otherworldly feeling.
here is the original photo before the editing. the reflection of the stone on the wet ice appeared as a black gap between the ice and stone. all editing was done on the free edition of adobe photoshop.
in a nearby pool the ice had formed totally different designs. i cannot imagine exactly how it happened but that did not deter me from taking a few shots
in yet another pool other designs were begging for some attention
while this is a monomad entry i could not resist including this shot which reminds me of a rubber ducky in a bathtub with a kid or two.
edit: in the original post i included an image, the 8th one which was very similar but not identical to one i used in a recent wednesday walk. i took many shots that day. while the image was not the same i have replaced it with another to avoid any confusion
