On the Monsal Trail: Rainbow in the Sky

We had a walk on the Monsal Trail in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire today that is a disused railway line. We began our walk at the Hassop Station Cafe. There was a lovely rainbow to start off with.

Unfortunately, we didn’t find any pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. At school, we were taught to remember the order of the seven colours of the rainbow by saying the phrase, 'Richard of York goes Battling in Vain' (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet).

The best thing about the trail, is that it’s very accessible for everyone as it's quite flat with a steady incline. It’s also well signposted.

The weather stayed kind for us. Perfect walking weather with a lovely blue sky and white clouds.

Even though the trail was opened in 1981, the tunnels remained closed for safety reasons. They placed footpaths around the tunnels so people could walk around them. In 2011, the tunnels finally opened, allowing everyone to walk through them.

I ought to have taken a bag and helped myself to some apples.

We finished off with a well earned coffee at the end of our walk.
