It was quite a mild day today, as we set off to have a walk around a local National Trust Estate. At the beginning of our walk, we noticed they'd built a new bird hide. It's good having bird hides but they don't always replenish the bird seed in the bird feeders. They seem to be always empty, so you never see any birds!
A tree had fallen down in the lake. We noticed it over the other side of the lake and loved the colour of the leaves, so we went to take a closer look.
We spotted quite a lot of fungi, but nothing of interest. This was the best one, although I have no idea what it is.
The maple trees have a fungal issue called tar spot. The black spots don't look very nice but thankfully, they aren't harmful to the tree. The disease only affects the leaves and when autumn comes the leaves will drop off. The disease is spread by the wind so there's a big chance the same trees will get reinfected.
It’s very easy to see the silver birch trees from a distance. Amongst all of the greenery their white bark stands out.
We carried on walking along the lake and followed the footpath back to the car.
