One of the more drastic examples of Hollywood's unwillingness to use original content is 2014 remake of Endless Love, early 1980s teen romance film that became savaged by critics and earned its share of Razzies. New version, directed by Shana Feste, has very little to do with original novel by Scott Spencer, and the plot, instead in Chicago, takes place in Georgia. Alex Pettyffer plays David Elliot, high school student from poor family who decides to romantically approach Jade Butterfield, played by Gabriella Wilde, fellow student from rich family. Their whirlwind summer romance creates hostile reaction by Jade's overprotective father, played by Bruce Greenwood, which would result in violence. New film discards any attempt to seriously explore concept of mad romantic love in cynical modern world, and instead conforms to cliches about simple socio-economic differences. Film suffers from constraining PG-13 rating and poor chemistry between two leads, being only occasionally interesting due to Greenwood's performance.
