THE PAINTER AND SCIENTIST
Pulling paint
scraping the canvas
tension
pressure
just enough to
reveal true beauty
to some
Others
see the surface
not the layers
underneath
each colour
an emotion
born into light
Each catching
their first breath
looking back at
inquisitive eyes
belonging to faces
prepped to turn away
Science fears
the feelings
abstraction
connotes
preferring to
close its mind
to possibility
The eternal
searching
and futile
lab work
the constant struggle
to make sense of
nonsense
The paint stricken
lab coat curls
like lit paper corners
at the thought
of being
unsanitary
unsterile
The painter and scientist
canvas and coat
equals only by
the mess
they leave
behind
