A Soldier of War, Part II | Monomad Challenge [ENG/ESP]

A few months ago I knew Gonzalo Diaz's work as a character actor and that he has participated in multiple productions. According to the itinerary we had, I already knew that he would play a war soldier and I must say that it was exciting to work with him and start composing scenes, as both of us spontaneously planned to have a cinematic style result.

We did some photos on location, which I shared in a color post a few days ago and obviously I had to have another black and white session more expressive in relation to the concept and place where we were.

Hace algunos meses atrás conocía el trabajo de Gonzalo Diaz como interpretador de personajes y que ha participado en múltiples producciones. De acuerdo al itinerario que teníamos ya sabía que interpretaría a un soldado de guerra y debo decir que fue emocionante el momento de trabajar con el y empezar a componer escenas, ya ambos de forma espontánea planeabamos tener resultado de estilo cinematográfico.

Hicimos algunas fotos en exteriores, las cuales compartir en un post a color hace algunos días y obviamente tenía que tener otra sesión en blanco y negro más expresiva en relación al concepto y lugar donde estábamos.

When we entered one of the abandoned and deteriorated places I proposed him to make war scenes and act a little, with these suggestions everything flowed naturally. We used for this session only the natural light that came through one of the doors and we made good use of the space.

Al entrar a uno de los lugares abandonados y deteriorados le propuse hacer escenas de guerra y actuar un poco, con esas sugerencias todo fué fluyendo de forma natural. Usamos para ésta sesión solo la luz natural que entraba por una de las puertas y aprovechamos muy bien el espacio.

The wardrobe along with the rifle and the grenade were the main elements we used, because we wanted to create scenes as if I was really in a war.

It was one of the last sessions I did, we were about to finish the production and go home. That's why we also took advantage of the last glimmers of light that the day offered us in every corner of this structure.

El vestuario acompañado con el rifle que llevaba y la granada fueron elementos principales a los que le dimos uso principal, pues quisimos crear escenas como si realmente estuviese en una guerra.

Fué una de las últimas sesiones que hice, ya estábamos por terminar la producción e irnos a casa. Por ello también aprovechamos los últimos destellos de luz que el día nos ofrecía en cada rincón de esta estructura.

This shot above was the actor's idea and composition, although his original idea was to throw the grenade for me to catch it in the air, we didn't have much time to do some tests. I still loved the result of this one.

Ésta toma que tenemos arriba fue idea y composición del actor, aunque su idea original era lanzar la granada para yo capturarla en el aire, no tuvimos mucho tiempo que digamos de hacer algunas pruebas. Aún así me ha encantado el resultado de ésta.

I think these photos have much more impact and relevance in black and white, they express much more and have more character, he is a soldier of the Second World War and we already know what year it happened.

It would be interesting to be able to organize a second session with Gonzalo with this theme and have much more time to include audiovisual material and compose with much more freedom and availability. So when the time comes I intend to hire his services and do something interesting.

Pienso que estas fotos tienen mucho más impacto y relevancia en blanco y negro, expresan mucho más y tiene más carácter, es un soldado de la segunda guerra mundial y ya sabemos en qué año sucedió.

Sería interesante poder organizar una segunda sesión con Gonzalo con esta temática y poder disponer de muchísimo más tiempo para incluir también material audiovisual y componer con mucha más libertad y disponibilidad. Así que cuando sea el momento pretendo contratar sus servicios y hacer algo interesante.
