It is "election season" here in the USA, so naturally opinions about what's going to happen abound... in the media, on social media and around the workplace water coolers.
Of course, elections are always a big circus with lots of mud being slung, fingers being pointed, and misinformation being sent in every possible direction. The fine art of taking words out of context has, in fact, reached new heights.
Terminology gets thrown about even though the people doing the throwing often make it patently obvious that they don't actually know the meaning of the terms they are using. Or condemning.
Sometimes I can't help but wonder whether any of this is even about politics anymore. Seems more like we're part of some big show — like maybe pro wrestling — and the real issue here is about heroes and villains not about who can run a country, a state, or some form of local government. It almost feels more like a video game than a political process!
It reaches an extreme sometimes, when you see people actively campaign and vote for things that are in direct opposition to what would serve them well, simply because they feverishly want to support their candidate... who "can do no wrong." Policy and governing do not matter, the person is everything.
Maybe it has always been like this and it is only in recent years that I've started to notice. Maybe it has always been like this, but the advent of the Internet has made us far more likely to see it.
To be honest, I have very little confidence in the system because it seems like the candidates available to vote for are singularly ill-suited for any purpose other than looking out for their own interests and lining their pockets at the public's expense. Ironically, the few who do make sense and sound reasonable are often considered "unelectable." Go figure...
Brings to mind a conversation I had with a friend many years ago in which we came to the conclusion that the people most qualified to do a great job of running a country or a state, or city, are probably the least likely to actually want the job. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to be a politician... not that I consider myself qualified to do so.
Does make me wonder whether the entire process even matters anymore. After all it seems like everything is actually being run by our corporate overlords, not by the actual people in government; the elected politicians are merely puppets put there to give the public the illusion that they actually have a say in what's going on, but it's all lies.
Anyway... the elections are less than four weeks away. No telling what is going to happen.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great Friday!
