Around Rowe Lake
Ok, after a light lunch by the lakeshore, thought I’d grab a few pics of the surrounding area. The lake itself (lower Rowe lake) is nestled snugly amidst the subalpine cirques of mount Rowe. Unfortunately

Lower Rowe Lake
After I was able to calm down from seeing them bears swim across the lake, I sat down and soaked in the gorgeous scenery around me. Had a few cool sips of water and a light lunch. Wow this was great! Serenity

Bears
After a couple of hours on the trail, I finally reached lower Rowe Lake. Just as the lake itself was becoming visible, I immediately saw a couple of black bears swimming across the lake. Wow. Excitement

Random Friday
Hey, it’s another Random Friday here on May the 15th. Forecast is for a little snow overnight, and even more in Banff! Not exactly the best news for a hiker like me. That being said, the snow will likely

Approaching Lower Rowe Lake
Ok, so the decision was made. The hike to the upper lake will need to wait for the next time around. Today, it was only going to be lower Rowe lake. It was sort of a relief actually, one less hour of trail

Trail Photo Ops
A few more photo ops from the trail to Rowe Lakes. Surprisingly this trail doubled as a horse trail as well, and sure enough, a group of trail riders came down right past me. Then I thought, maybe I ought

Journey to Upper or Lower Rowe Lake?
As I hiked my way upward to Rowe Lakes, I was pondering whether or not go to the upper lake or just hit the lower lake. Wasn’t quite sure how much extra time it would cost me until I arrived at the signage.

Trail to Rowe Lakes
One thing that really stood out for me on this hike was the pristine beauty of the trail itself. The reddish tint of the soil made it gorgeous to trek on. You know when they say that “It’s not the designation,

Next Hike Rowe Lakes
A new day, a new hike. The goal was to hike to Rowe Lakes, where there is an upper and lower lake. But I hadn’t decided yet if I’d go all the way or not, will worry about that later — let’s go! Once again,

Bales Galore
On that stretch of highway between Pincher Creek and Waterton Lakes park, Alberta are some pretty decent landscape photo ops. Bales here, bales there, bales galore. Wouldn’t you just love to own a nice

Alberta Bales
While visiting Waterton Lakes park we stayed just outside the park in Pincher Creek (its usually much cheaper than staying inside a national park where prices are exorbitant). The connecting highway had

Rocky Mountain Roadside
After a couple of good hikes it was time to hit the road, and head back to our hotel. But first, the mountainside scenery was something to behold! Good thing I was able to stop by the roadside (and even

Wrapping Up Forum
Another hike completed, another one for the “record books”. Took about two and a half hours round rip to Forum Falls and back. I would rate it as about a 6/10. Good hike, worthwhile, but wouldn’t go out

Approaching Forum Falls
The hike to Forum Falls was relatively easy, with an elevation gain of about 350 metres or so. But looking back on it, it did not feel like that much, I would have guessed less actually. Just goes to show
