The Definiteness of Purpose. This is your layout, your blueprint for your ultimate mission in life, and you create it. As I study the 16 Laws of Success, I find this to be one of the most important things mentioned throughout the book. Although, I'm still reading I wanted to mention this one aspect and it's importance. You are instructed to read your D of P daily or twice daily even. The objective of doing this is so that it becomes embedded in your subconscious. I personally wrote one of my D of P's as if I were in the future writing the letter to myself.
I like to incorporate other related studies with a single blog, and another similar study is from Randy Gage; he mentions this same thing. He doesn't call it the Definiteness of Purpose, but it really
doesn't matter what you call it. The point is that it's a road-map for your success. In his teachings he mentions the exact same thing. Just to paraphrase, it goes something like this -- There was a study done on a lot of people (I think it was over 1000), and of those people a very small percentage was successful (I think it was about 1%) the other 99% (or 95%) just didn't have a plan or at least not a well defined plan. It made that much of a difference. So what if my numbers aren't exact, that's not the point, I remember enough about this story to get the point across, as long as you understand that. The study was done, it's been tested and proven, and the task is simple -- Just know where you want to go in life. I've already taken this as far as 4 years ahead in life and I know that I should make this for other stages in my life. For example where do you see yourself ultimately -- specific dates, colors smells, sounds, things that you own, people in your life; narrate it in 1st person as if you're already there writing a letter to yourself now (now in the past) and you're reading a letter sent to you by you from yourself in the future. Do this for a stage at 4-5 years, then another stage at 10+ years (ultimate), include who you help, or what you ultimately accomplish and include what service or goods or value that you exchange for this accomplishment in life. Prices of things are not an option in your ultimatum. Okay, I haven't read any of this next part that I'm about to suggest, but I will implement this; I've heard hints at this.. it seems logical and it would make sense (after you have your 4-5 and your 10 year achievement) go as far to create goals and smaller plans of action that you will perform to get to your mid and ultimate accomplishment.
Let's recap:
1. 4-5 year D of P (it's not a goal, it's a narration of where you have arrived written in minute detail)
2. 10 year+ D of P (same but after an extended time)
3. Steps to be taken (goals and plans of action to get you to the first two)
Note that either D of P can actually occur at any time, it can occur even in 1 year; it's all up to you. You may even set it for 4-5 but realize it in 1 year. The idea is to set a plan so you have something to work with.
