I've often likened life's path to a sign wave. Rising positive bringing elation, falling to neutral with comfort, dipping negative bringing the same, before rising back to the comfort of neutral, and beginning the cycle again. Recently I found myself pulled through the cycle at a very high speed.
In my previous post I spoke of a company who paid to fly me across the United States(East to West) and put me up in a hotel for the duration. I was ecstatic to say the least, though grounding myself appropriately. I passed the test and went through an interview. Waiting for a response, I returned to my home in Pennsylvania. This was 2 Wednesdays ago. Though I was scheduled off, I felt my current employer could benefit from an early return to work, and I did the next morning, Thursday.
I work in a warehouse and deliver parts from our main location to our satellite locations. All was well, until I was returning to the warehouse from a delivery run. I was beginning to pass a tractor trailer, when a sportier vehicle, driving far too fast, came around me on my right, and tried to perform an, in my opinion, impossible pass. To keep from collision, I pulled my vehicle to the left. At this section of the highway there is little to no shoulder, and just a 30 yard gap and a rut separating oncoming traffic.
My driver side wheels left the pavement and I turned right to regain position on the road. In doing so I lost control of the full sided van, and shifted sideways. Next were a few blurred moments of bouncing off every wall of that van, with the snow tires I was transporting. Yeah, yeah, I should have had a seatbelt on, but I didn't. When the motion stopped, I stood up in the back of a van on its side. A habit of an active youth had me patting arms, legs chest and head. No broken bones. I heard a man's voice calling, and I shouted "I'm ok," crawling through the space where a back window was.
He was shocked to see me 1 because I walked out of that mangled vehicle, and 2 because my nose had been busted pretty good from a tire I had clung to.(I grabbed at anything to hold on to as I bounced around) He told my I rolled 3 or 4 times. He also phoned the police for me, and told me he was going to stick around to speak with them, as he saw the other driver all but push me from the road. For that I am grateful and intend to show my appreciation in some way. The rest is a standard trauma scare hospital trip. I was cleared with nothing but a few scrapes on my face and a swollen, not broken, nose. I lost my glasses and broke my phone, and have insurance for neither, so it dug into my funds a bit, but I was happy to have walked away unscathed.
A week goes by and I hear nothing from the employer.. My outlook darkened, but I held to positive thoughts. I decided to contact them and found that I've been accepted and need only to pass a background check! I can say I've lived more this year already than I did in 2017 total. I'm writing this to tell an experience of mine, but also to stress the point that there is no such thing as constant positive. Just as bitcoin has its ups and downs, our lives ride the wave. The key is always knowing, the lower you go, the sooner and greater the rise to positive, and accepting that downs are inevitable and taking from them what you can.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it, and best wishes to all.
