Gerald Earl Gillum (born May 24, 1989), better known by his stage name G-Eazy (sometimes called Young Gerald), is an American rapper, songwriter and record producer. He debuted with his album, These Things Happen which was released on June 23, 2014, and had positive reviews. The album reached number 3 in the list Billboard 200 of the United States. Their second album, When It's Dark Out, was released on December 4, 2015.
When Gillum was in first grade, his mother left his father (who is an art teacher at CSU Fresno). Gillum and his younger brother James, moved to the home of their grandparents in Berkeley, California. Later they moved to North Oakland, although Gillum continued attending the school in Berkeley. When Gillum was about 12 years old, her mother started dating a woman named Melissa Mills. This initially confused and embarrassed Gillum, who could not understand the change in his mother's personal life. However, he came to accept Mills as part of the family and grew up near her. Mills was depressed because of the medications he was taking to treat his manic depressive disorder. One day, Gillum returned home to find Mills dead because of an overdose. He details this experience in the last verse of "Everything Will Be Ok" in his second album, When It's Dark Out.
In 2010, G-Eazy began to become popular when it was given the opportunity to open for some well-known artists, especially Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg.
G-Eazy published mixtapes in this period of time were met with limited success. In August 2011, The Endless Summer released on its official site. The mixtape sampled a number of songs, most notably an updated version of "Runaround Sue," a 1961 hit in the United States, played by Dion DiMucci. This song got more than four million hits through YouTube. The music video for "Runaround Sue" (with Devon Baldwin) was directed by Tyler Yee. The mixtape features appearances by Greg Banks, Erika Flores and Devon Baldwin. In November 2011, Gillum embarked on his national tour with Shwayze. "My Life Is a Party" was included in the game Saints Row: The Third on a radio station in the game.
On June 26, 2012, G-Eazy performed on all American Vans Warped Tour dates. On July 25, 2012, the Excellent Adventure Tour was announced, which featured Allen and G-Eazy Hoodie appearances. They were performed in cities across the US, including Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Columbus, Des Moines, New Orleans, Atlanta, Austin, and Philadelphia. On September 26, 2012, G-Eazy released their first full length album, Must Be Nice.
On July 9, 2013, G-Eazy, along with 2 Chainz, opened the "America's Most Wanted Tour" to Lil Wayne. On December 15, 2013, G-Eazy and Master Chen B performed "Lotta That" of These Things Happen in New York. On January 15, 2014, G-Eazy announced their "These Things Happen Tour" with MMG's Rockie Fresh, KYLE and Tory Lanez. The tour ran for 40 stops throughout the United States and Canada from February through April 2014
On June 23, 2014, G-Eazy released their debut album, These Things Happen.
