"Give me a good cup of coffee and a book I love and I'll be happy" - Unknown
It's Sunday again on my side of the world. And after the hustle and bustle of the last few days, I thought I wouldn't have a chance to respond to the weekend engagement, but here I am once again.
This week it has been harder than usual for me to decide on one of the options. I had thought about answering option 3. And I was starting to write when the power went out. One of those blackouts so common around here. And when they happen, I can't help but think about those days of darkness we lived in 2019 when the country went dark for a week during a national blackout. That experience was terrible and frustrating. But also left many life lessons. I have never been very attached to material things. In that sense, I adapt very easily. But I like comfort and having those things that give it.
So as I write using my laptop battery and mobile phone data, I've decided I rather forget about option 3, and I'll write about option 1, the Without items. I'm sure we all have more than three, but I'm going to stick to the rules and name the first three that come to my mind.
If there's one thing I don't want to do without in life, it's a comfortable bed. And it's not because I find it hard to sleep. On the contrary, when I'm tired and sleepy, I can sleep even on a rock. But the next morning, I'll wake up with a sore body and unable to move. A good rest is vital to feel good about ourselves and the world.
Therefore a comfy bed is one of my "Without Items".
I can't imagine living without having a book to read. These days, I may not hold a book in my hands every day. I often read now in the kindle. And there are days when I feel like watching a series and not reading. But when you spent a week without power. Then you realize how important it is to have a book at hand to keep your sanity. Reading is a great distraction, and it helps me to relax as well.
If there's one thing I need to get me going every day, it's coffee. On the few occasions, I have dared to leave the house without a coffee. At mid-morning, I get a splitting headache, and my mood is not the best. So for my sake and the sake of those around me, that first coffee of the morning is a necessity. So as I write this, still without electricity around here and unable to use the electric coffee maker. I am drinking a coffee that I was able to brew in an old Greka. So for me, a coffee maker is something hard to live without.
That's all for today. I have less than 20% battery left on my laptop, and I'm still without power. This is my entry to this week's Weekend-Engagement (WE91) about Without.
Thanks for reading!
