Being in a social atmosphere we are well aware of spammers, scammers, and hackers. We are aware of the weirdos, the cool ones, the unacceptables, and the fakers.
We have them on Facebook, Twitter, and in real life. They are our neighbors, our enemies, or friends, and our family members.
I am on Facebook, and Twitter, and LinkedIn. I am on other social sites like myLot.com, and Empowr (one that I do NOT recommend). I am 40 years old. I have seen some crazy things in my life, and some pretty awesome things too.
So where am I going with this?
Where I am going is right to the heart of the matter. We have people here on this site who are not like me. Some who are computer programmers, some who have been online for a week, some who spam. Some who scam. Some who are fake. Some who are hackers. Some who are cool, and some who are weird. But that is what society is. We need to accept that these things happen. We need to understand that the dude who just spammed your inbox is trying to get you to sign up for the "next big thing" because he believes in it. And not someone pushy on a normal basis.
SteemIt is a platform where cash is flowing. Folks like me came because I was invited by dollarvigilante. Yes, I subscribed to his YouTube channel a long while before I heard about Steemit. I followed him on Twitter months before this site. The "$" I saw this guy made, caused me to really talk to Julie about it. Since then, I have over 130 posts, and not much else.
The point...
We have all kinds here. Steemit is a platform for folks to get noticed. That means folks like I described before. SteemIt has done this to itself. And there is no one else to blame. This platform lives or dies on the folks that are brought here. And to tell you that some of them do not have the best motives is like preaching to the choir. But the platform is to blame for this.
Am I saying that it is bad to want to HELP others make a living? NO! I am saying that when you do something to help others, there will always be someone there to try and take it away. We do things to ourselves. Sometimes with the best intentions, and sometimes not. But either way, we bring into our lives the good and the bad. No one else is to blame.
Is Steemit to blame when accounts get hacked and money stolen? In real life, we are able to leave a situation and get help. But online, there are so many ways to get into trouble, that we at times close the laptops and take a day off. (I know that I do anyway.)
We do not want to get into this trouble, but it is there, lurking and waiting to ambush us. Trying to kill our online experience.
Still, we do things to help others. SteemIt is here to give folks a voice, and to make a better life for people. I am into that and want to help this platform grow. But in this experience, expect the unexpected, and know that no matter YOUR personal intentions, Steemit is getting exactly what it deserves...
