No, it's both based on steem and just a different way to display all the posts so with the current setup it wouldn't be possible to have it just on one platform.

Yeah but that's quite literally what STEEM does as well. The only difference is that the miner just gets to keep 20% (or so) and the rest goes towards the content creator but in terms of the power usage

Eh, it will correct a little for sure but go up further soon enough. More and more companies and even governments are investing into ethereum in one way or another which raises confidence as well as awareness
