I don't know about you, but I find it genuinely painful to see beautiful big fabric scraps thrown away in the trash. It feels like a waste of potential.
These particular scraps are the remnants from the beautiful gown my wife handmade for my daughter for her first birthday last year. Since then, we've kept them tucked away, waiting for the perfect project to make.
Today, I'm thrilled to share a super sweet and charming headband with bow that I made for her, using some of these meaningful leftovers and elastic. It's the perfect way to carry the memory of that special dress into her everyday wear.
I sew round this rectangular shaped fabric
Trimmed off some excess around the seam allowance
and created a small hole at the mid point to turn it inside out.
I wrapped this strip fabric around the elastic and sew just to secure the elastic tip to the fabrics, did it on both sides.
Then I I made a complete top stitch on the strip to create a band for the headwear. Also I sew a short trip to attach the bow to the band
Using a candle wax gum and a lighter, I attached the already folded bow to the band and then cover it up with the short strip.
