¡Hola amigos de Hive! Sean bienvenidos una vez más a mi blog. Hoy quiero compartirles lo que ha sido este proceso de retomar mi emprendimiento poco a poco. Como les he contado antes, estoy regresando con un nuevo concepto, pero todavía no he arrancado de lleno porque me encuentro evaluando muchas cosas: costos, materiales, nuevas técnicas y varios tips de repostería en los que siento que no estoy del todo actualizada. Emprender requiere estudio, y en eso estoy ahora mismo.

Para esta prueba, decidí hacer una mezcla de torta de chocolate rindiendo 8 raciones. Mi idea inicial era sencilla: vender 4 porciones para ir moviendo el negocio y dejar las otras 4 para disfrutar en casa con mi familia. Les confieso que, aunque ahora mismo no estoy generando ganancias reales, me sirve muchísimo para analizar las cantidades que uso, los tiempos de horno, los costos de los ingredientes y, por supuesto, conocer a los clientes.

Una anécdota cómica con las ventas Esto fue muy cómico porque, de esas 4 porciones que saqué a la venta, me pidieron las 4 juntas, pero para pagármelas dentro de 15 días. ¡Imagínense! Yo, antes de agarrar una rabia después teniendo que cobrar, preferí mejor regalárselas a mis hijos y vender otras 4 que hice aparte. Y eso que solo cuestan 2.5 $.

Hello, Hive friends! Welcome back to my blog. Today I want to share with you what it's been like to gradually get my business back on track. As I've told you before, I'm coming back with a new concept, but I haven't fully launched yet because I'm still evaluating many things: costs, materials, new techniques, and various baking tips that I feel I'm not quite up to speed on. Entrepreneurship requires study, and that's what I'm doing right now.

For this test, I decided to make a chocolate cake mix that yields 8 servings. My initial idea was simple: sell 4 servings to get the business going and keep the other 4 to enjoy at home with my family. I confess that, although I'm not making any real profit right now, it's very useful for me to analyze the quantities I use, baking times, ingredient costs, and, of course, getting to know my customers.

A funny story about sales This was very funny because, of the 4 servings I put up for sale, they asked me for all 4 at once, but to pay me in 15 days. Imagine that! Before getting angry about having to collect payment, I decided to give them to my children and sell four others that I made separately. And they only cost $2.50.

Al final, no gané dinero en efectivo, pero tampoco perdí, porque nos dimos un gusto en casa y para mí fue muy satisfactorio ver a mi familia disfrutar. Además, mi esposo y mis hijos son los mejores para darme sugerencias de control de calidad. Por un tiempo estaré trabajando así, solo porciones pequeñas (8 raciones) durante los fines de semana, ya que mi público es limitado por el momento y tengo mucho que ajustar en el camino.

La Receta: Torta de chocolate con aceite (Prueba de humedad) En esta oportunidad quise experimentar. Normalmente uso margarina, pero esta vez trabajé con aceite para ver qué tal quedaba la humedad de la torta. Les confieso que me daba un poco de miedo porque sentía que me iba a saber a puro aceite, así que compré uno de los más caros que encontré en el supermercado. Sigo evaluando marcas hasta encontrar una que no deje nada de sabor o sensación grasosa, pero que mantenga la suavidad.

\-Ingredientes que utilicé: * 4 tazas de harina de trigo leudante. * 2 tazas de azúcar blanca. * 4 huevos enteros. * 1 cda. de esencia de oreo. * 1 cda. de polvo de hornear. * 1 taza de leche. * 1 taza de agua caliente (y un chorrito más si hace falta). * Aceite (en sustitución de la margarina). * Cacao en polvo. >

In the end, I didn't make any money, but I didn't lose any either, because we treated ourselves at home and it was very satisfying for me to see my family enjoy themselves. Plus, my husband and kids are the best at giving me quality control suggestions. For a while, I'll be working like this, just small portions (8 servings) on the weekends, since my audience is limited at the moment and I have a lot to adjust along the way.

The Recipe: Chocolate Cake with Oil (Moisture Test) This time I wanted to experiment. I usually use margarine, but this time I worked with oil to see how it would affect the moisture of the cake. I confess that I was a little scared because I felt that it was going to taste like pure oil, so I bought one of the most expensive ones I found at the supermarket. I'm still evaluating brands until I find one that doesn't leave any taste or greasy feeling, but maintains the softness.

Ingredients I used:

4 cups of self-rising wheat flour.

2 cups of white sugar.

4 whole eggs.

1 tbsp. of Oreo essence.

1 tbsp. of baking powder.

1 cup of milk.

1 cup of hot water (and a little more if needed).

Oil (instead of margarine).

Cocoa powder.

Modo de preparación:

Para empezar, mezclé los huevos con la vainilla, el aceite, la esencia de oreo y la leche. Aparte, preparé los ingredientes secos: la harina de trigo, el polvo de hornear y el azúcar. Un detalle importante es que el cacao no lo eché seco, sino que lo mezclé primero con el agua caliente y lo incorporé de último a la mezcla.

Uní todos los líquidos muy bien y al final fui agregando los ingredientes secos. Tuve que ir incorporando un poco más de agua "al cálculo" porque sentía que la mezcla estaba muy espesa y quería que quedara más ligera.

Horneado y el problema de los envases

Ya cuando tuve mi mezcla bien homogénea, la puse en mi tortera de 25 cm, que es la que estoy usando por ahora. La llevé al horno por una hora exacta. Al sacarla, la dejé reposar, la abrí por la mitad para rellenarla con crema de chocolate y luego la piqué en sus 8 pedazos.

Preparation method:

To begin with, I mixed the eggs with the vanilla, oil, Oreo essence, and milk. Separately, I prepared the dry ingredients: wheat flour, baking powder, and sugar. An important detail is that I didn't add the cocoa dry, but mixed it with hot water first and added it to the mixture last.

I mixed all the liquids together thoroughly and then added the dry ingredients. I had to add a little more water “by eye” because I felt that the mixture was too thick and I wanted it to be lighter.

Baking and the problem with containers

Once I had a smooth mixture, I poured it into my 10-inch cake pan, which is the one I'm using for now. I baked it for exactly one hour. When I took it out, I let it cool, cut it in half to fill it with chocolate cream, and then cut it into 8 pieces.

Aquí fue donde me di cuenta de un detalle: los envases triangulares nuevos que compré no cerraban. ¡La torta me había quedado muy alta! Les corté un poco la parte de arriba para ver si cerraban, pero ni así; entre el relleno y la decoración, el envase no daba. Me tocó venderlas abiertas y fue un poco incómodo para transportar. Por eso les digo que estoy en momento de evaluación: o busco un envase más alto o uso una tortera más ancha para que no suban tanto.

Para decorar, usé un cereal de chocolate que me había quedado y la otra mitad con pastillas de chocolate tipo Dandis. Cada ración la vendí en 2.5 $ y se fueron todas en dos días. Sé que me falta recuperar clientela y mejorar la promoción, pero no tengo apuro. Prefiero ir mejorando estos detalles de las torteras y las marcas de los ingredientes primero.

Lo positivo es que, al vender la mitad, recuperé lo invertido y el postre de mi casa salió gratis. ¡Poco a poco se llega lejos! Luego les contaré más avances de este proyecto.

That's when I noticed something: the new triangular containers I bought didn't close. The cake had turned out too tall! I cut off the top a little to see if they would close, but even that didn't work; between the filling and the decoration, the container just wouldn't fit. I had to sell them open, which made them a little awkward to transport. That's why I'm in evaluation mode: either I find taller containers or I use a wider cake pan so they don't rise as much.

To decorate, I used some chocolate cereal I had left over and the other half with Dandis-type chocolate chips. I sold each serving for $2.50 and they were all gone in two days. I know I need to regain customers and improve promotion, but I'm in no rush. I prefer to improve these details of the cake pans and the brands of ingredients first.

The positive thing is that, by selling half, I recouped my investment and got dessert at home for free. Slow and steady wins the race! I'll tell you more about the progress of this project later.
