I've heard of couples who make a pact to never bring their work home. That is, when you leave work, everything that has to do with work remains at work. And you mentally prepare yourself to be with your family.
This is very important because it's so easy to bring baggage from work home. Maybe colleagues or horrible bosses pissed us off, but we go home and transfer all that aggression to our partners, or even worse, our kids.
It takes a lot of intentionality to learn to leave work at home. This is why I would never blame people who choose to put themselves first. Once their shift ends, they stop whatever they were doing and go home. they leave what is left for the next shift or when they return the next day. Things like unpaid overtime is not in their vocabulary. Maybe this is something we all need to do.
