Steemit 24hr active user figure keeps declining but total user number keeps rising?

Over the last 2 weeks I observed the short term active user numbers grinding down, although only by a couple of hundred, while there is a continuous healthy amount of sign ups. Either there is a lot of churn or something is up with the table at: https://steemd.com/distribution
Anyone have a refreshing view on these stats?
