Decided to start playing steemhop after a long while of missing out in the gane so let’s call this a leader board grind 🥲🤲
Bro Steemhop gameplay is lowkey addictive in the worst way possible 😂. You start with this little white block with a red ribbon, just chilling on an orange desert looking map with some rocks and trees scattered around. The whole vibe is bright and colorful but don’t let that fool you, this game will stress you out. The goal is simple, just keep hopping forward and don’t get hit by anything. The moment you tap to move, cars start flying in from the side on these blue roads. Red ones, purple ones, all coming at different speeds and lanes. First few hops are easy, you’re like “yeah I got this”. I got to like 4, 5 score and I was already feeling confident. Then you realize one wrong tap and you’re back to zero. The sound effect when you get hit is so annoying too, but you can’t stop playing because you always think “just one more run and I’ll beat my score”.
After you survive the road part, that’s when Steemhop really starts testing you. The map changes and suddenly you’ve got train tracks everywhere with red and white barriers going up and down. Trains will just appear out of nowhere with zero warning and they’re fast. I was at like 12, 13 points and I thought I was doing good, then a purple train just ran me over because I misjudged the timing by half a second. The trick is you have to watch both the cars on the road and the trains on the tracks at the same time, and your brain starts melting. There are these little gaps between the tracks where you can stand and wait, but if you wait too long more cars come and trap you. I managed to push it to 28 one run and even collected some gold coins along the way. Every coin feels like a small win and it makes you greedy because you start going out of your way to grab them even when it’s risky.
The hardest part for me is when both the road and the tracks are active at the same time. That’s where 90% of my runs ended. You’ll be focused on dodging a red car, then BAM a train comes from the other side while a purple car is coming from behind. At one point I got to 32 and I was so close to beating my high score of 33. My fingers were sweating and I was leaning into the phone like that was going to help me dodge better. I was hopping between lanes, waiting for the barrier to lift, trying to grab coins without dying. Then I got greedy and went for one more coin on the tracks and a car clipped me from the side. Game over instantly. The score resets to 0 and the big STEEM HOP logo pops up again on the blue screen like it’s mocking you. That’s Steemhop for you, one second you’re a genius, next second you’re trash. I died like 3 times in a row after that because I was tilted.
I played a few more rounds after that and my top score ended up at 37. Still not 39 but I’m getting there slowly. What I like about Steemhop is that it’s simple but it makes you sweat. No complicated controls, just tap to hop forward, left or right, but your brain has to be 3 steps ahead the whole time. The graphics are clean too, all that isometric desert, little trees, the trains look nice, and the cars have that blocky mobile game style. And the fact that it runs on http://steemhop.org in browser means I can just open it anytime I’m bored without downloading anything. I’ve been trying different patterns too, like sometimes I rush and sometimes I play safe and wait. Safe usually gets me further. I’ll definitely be grinding this more to hit 40+. Right now I’m just trying to not die to those stupid purple cars and to stop being greedy for coins 💀
