MY SQUAD FOR THE MATCH
I went into this EPL league match knowing it was literally everything on the line. Matchday 7, 6 wins out of 6, sitting top of the table but one slip and it鈥檚 all gone. 21 points was what I was playing for and I needed those 3 points to keep my first position. The opponent was Sunderland RWB and the moment the game loaded I could feel the pressure. I was in my green and yellow kit, the stadium was full, the banners were waving, and the crowd noise was loud through my headphones. Every pass felt heavy, every tackle felt like it could decide the whole season. I kept telling myself just stay calm, don鈥檛 force anything, take the one chance if it comes, and whatever you do don鈥檛 concede. Because 1-0 was all I needed to make it 7 out of 7 victories and finally redeem myself after those close calls and late goals I bottled last week. This was the game to prove I deserve to be top.
The goal came in the 42nd minute and thank God it was Sergio Aguero. My 97-rated Aguero card. We were building up slowly, nothing rushed. De Bruyne picked it up in midfield, played it to Nedved, and he slid it through to Aguero just inside the box. I had maybe half a second to think and I just hit shoot. The ball flew past the keeper and into the net. 1-0. The screen immediately popped up "Marvellous Goal! Now Keep Going!" and Aguero ran straight to the corner flag with both arms wide open. The crowd went mental, my players ran to him, and I was literally screaming at my phone in my room. The replay looked so clean too. The keeper dived but it was placed perfectly. That one moment changed the whole game. After that goal I knew it wasn鈥檛 about scoring more, it was about defending, managing the game, and making sure Sunderland didn鈥檛 get back into it. One goal was enough if I could hold on.
The second half was absolute torture in the best way possible. Sunderland came out like they were down 5-0 in a final. Wave after wave. Pressing high, crossing early, trying through balls between my center backs, shooting from everywhere. I had Roberto Carlos putting in blocks, De Bruyne tracking back like a CDM, and everyone else just throwing their bodies at everything. I was switching players every 2 seconds, spamming Dash & Pressure, clearing balls that had no business being cleared. Around the 70th minute they had a big chance and I thought "this is it, they鈥檙e gonna equalize" but somehow we got a foot in and cleared it. The scoreboard stayed at 1-0 and with every minute that ticked by I felt closer to 21 points and 7 wins out of 7. It wasn鈥檛 the prettiest football I鈥檝e played, but when you鈥檙e top of the league you don鈥檛 need tiki-taka. You need grit, you need results, and we got the result.
When the final whistle finally blew I just dropped my phone on the bed and stared at the ceiling for a minute. 1-0 win. 7 out of 7. 21 points and still first in my league. I immediately went to check the table and nobody had overtaken me. That single Aguero goal in the 42nd minute was the difference between staying top and dropping to second and chasing again. I鈥檝e lost games exactly like this before where I concede in the 85th minute and throw away 3 points, but this time we didn鈥檛. The defense actually listened to me, the midfield worked hard, and Aguero did what Aguero always does in big moments. It felt like redemption. Like all those frustrating draws and losses finally meant something because I learned how to close out a game when it matters.
Now I鈥檓 sitting here with 21 points, 7 victories out of 7, and my name still at the very top of the EPL table and it feels unreal 鉂わ笍. Aguero with the winner, the whole team defending like their lives depended on it, and I didn鈥檛 collapse under pressure for once. Seven games, seven wins. That鈥檚 a perfect start. There鈥檚 still a long way to go in the season and teams are definitely going to be coming for me now, but this win proves I can handle the big pressure games. Next match I鈥檓 coming for 8 out of 8 and I鈥檓 going to try and extend this lead even more. For now though I鈥檓 just going to enjoy being top because it鈥檚 wins like this, 1-0, ugly, stressful, but 3 points, that actually win you leagues in the end.
