Bro this AFCON Selection contract match for Marmoush and Mbuemo had me on edge the whole time 😂 It was Chelsea B vs Mali and somehow I came out with the 1-0 win. This wasn’t one of those matches where you just spam through balls and score 4. This was one of those dirty, stressful games where every pass felt like it mattered because if I lost I was losing progress on that contract.
First half was dead. Like actually dead. From the kickoff at eFootball Stadium both teams just stared at each other. I was playing as Mali in the green and yellow kit and Chelsea B were in white. The whole 45 minutes was just midfield. I tried to play out with Lassana Coulibaly and Diogo Dalot but Chelsea B just sat in a low block. Stats at halftime told the whole story - 0-0, 48% possession to 52%, 1 shot each and 0 on target. 1 foul, 1 corner, 1 offside. Nothing. I was getting mad because I knew I needed this win for the event but nothing was clicking. Even the game gave me halftime advice about "Press With Multiple Players" so I knew I had to change something.
Came out for second half and told myself I’m not playing safe anymore. Around 46 minutes I started pushing my fullbacks up and looking for gaps. Chelsea B had a few moments too, like at 50 minutes when Ravel Nedved linked with Ousmane Camara but my CBs just about scrambled it away. The game was way more open now and you could feel someone was about to crack. I kept getting that "You're Rushing The Play" warning at 48 minutes but I didn’t care. I was switching play, trying to drag their defenders out, and just waiting for one mistake. Marmoush and Mbuemo were the whole reason I was grinding this event so I had to get it done.
Then the 59th minute hit and everything changed. I can’t even remember every pass in the build up but the ball fell to El-Hadji Diouf. That 96 card I was lucky to pull last week. He took one touch and smashed it. 1-0. I actually shouted. The screen gave me "Goal Celebration" and "On the Counter" options and I just skipped to watch Diouf run off. He went to the corner, arms out, and the whole team ran to him. Even the manager on the sideline was clapping. That goal felt like a weight off because now I wasn’t the one chasing, they were.
After going up it turned into survival mode. The game told me "Got to Protect This Lead" so I dropped my line, started passing sideways, and pressed in groups instead of running in alone. Chelsea B brought on more attackers and tried to hit me with Steven Gerrard and Manuel Bianchi but I wasn’t letting anything past. At 63 minutes I even had a counter with Lassana Coulibaly but I slowed it down instead of forcing a second. Just kept possession, fouled smart, and ran the clock. When the ref blew it was 1-0. Ugly win, but a win. For an event match that gives you Marmoush and Mbuemo, I’ll take that all day.
