Ever notice that your computer is getting slower and slower? (PC Version)
Well, that could have a number of causes. Like low system memory, and outdated processor, a corrupted system, a hard drive with less than 10% free space, etc, etc… It could be anything, and after a while it just gets frustrating. I feel your pain. Everyone has gone through it. But before you take a hammer to it and call it a day, try these things. Hopefully it may save your computer from an acid bath.
*Disclaimer: Use at your own risk. I will not be responsible if you do something wrong and end up wiping your data. This is how I see it. If you are smart enough to use STEEMIT then you should be smart enough to follow these steps which were provided to you as a guide.
If your hard drive has less than 10% free space. But you don't want to reload your OS and lose your software.
This is the easiest fix. Go to your local computer shop and purchase an external hard drive (make sure it’s big enough for your files, and its preformatted for Windows). Copy your “Desktop”, “Documents”, “Downloads”, “Favorites”, “Music”, “Videos”, and any other folder you value. Reason I say copy and not move is simply to prevent data corruption, because if you are moving a folder and your power goes out then chances are that folder’s contents will probably be corrupted and unreadable. After copying your data to the external drive, verify that your files are there. Once you’ve checked and confirmed it then feel free to delete and clean out the folders on your computer.
After that you also want to try to clean out your “temp” folders. To do that download and run TFC (Temp File Cleaner) software (LINK: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tfc/ ). Once you’ve ran it click “Start”, let it run it’s course then exit. Keep in mind that this will also delete your cookies and your browsing history.
Now you have a computer a computer that should be a bit more responsive. Take note that most hard drives tend to start failing after about 4-5 years. I say this based on my own experience repairing computers which I have been doing since 1996. Always keep your data backed up. Data recovery service isn’t cheap and it isn’t guaranteed. Also I recommend that you try to maintain atleast 10-11% free space on your hard drive. This promotes a healthy hard drive.
Thank you STEEMIT users for your time reading this. I will continue to try to give the best tips regarding computers.
