I have put claw caps on my cats to prevent clawing, they last about 6 months. But I HATE declawing. As for why the caps? I'd just brought Toes home, she was a rescue from the humane society, and Tuxedo was constantly going after her and scratching her, and the two would fight. So, temporarily, I put claw caps on their claws so they couldn't scratch each other. It took about three months for them to get used to each other enough where they were no longer fighting, but the better part of a year before they could nap side by side without any issues.

Claw caps are kinda like putting glove fingers over your fingernails.
