A movie location: Nothing Hill, London - My entry for the MONOMAD Challenge

When you read Nothing Hill, you can't help but think of the movie starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, right? For those of us who have seen it and are not natives of London, I think Nothing Hill refers more to this tender love story than to a real place in the world.

With this brief introduction I greet you and give way to my entry in today's #monomadchallenge, where I want to share with you a little more of my days in London, this magical city, inspiration for so many stories, of all genres that exist.

When I saw in one of the stations "Nothing Hill", my eyes went from looking for the one that was my destination to focus on this name. At that moment I realized that I was close to "the place of the movie".

Un lugar de película: Nothing Hill, London - Mi entrada para el MONOMAD Challenge

Cuando uno lee Nothing Hill, no puede evitar pensar a la película protagonizada por Julia Roberts y Hugh Grant, ¿verdad? Para quienes la hemos visto y no somos oriundos de Londres, creo que Nothing Hill hace más referencia a esta tierna historia de amor que a un lugar real del mundo.

Con esta breve introducción los saludo y doy lugar a mi entrada en el #monomad challenge de hoy, en donde deseo compartir con ustedes un poco más de mis días en Londres, esta mágica ciudad, inspiración de tantas historias, de todos los géneros que existen.

Cuando vi en una de las estaciones “Nothing Hill”, mi vista pasó de estar buscando el que era mi destino a enfocarse en este nombre. En ese momento caí en la cuenta de que estaba cerca “del lugar de la película”.

I had such a long list of things to see in London, that I didn't know if I would find the time to visit Nothing Hill, but fortunately, I somehow included it in my plans for the last few days.

Nothing Hill is a small area, sort of like a neighborhood, with a noticeably different cityscape than central London. It is much quieter and more family friendly. Although it has a lot of white houses, as neat as the clouds in the sky, it has some streets where its colorful shops stand out.

I found it very interesting to play with these black and white photographic archives, since by changing the shades of the facades, I suspected that the image would look particularly interesting, and it did.

Tenía una lista tan larga de cosas que ver en Londres, que no sabía si encontraría el momento para visitar Nothing Hill, pero afortunadamente, de alguna manera lo incluí en mis planes de los últimos días.

Nothing Hill es una pequeña área, algo así como un barrio, con un paisaje urbano notablemente diferente al centro de Londres. Es mucho más tranquilo y más familiar. Aunque tiene una gran cantidad de casas blancas, tan pulcras como las nubes del cielo, cuenta con algunas calles en las que destacan sus locales de colores.

Me pareció muy interesante jugar con estos archivos fotográficos en blanco y negro, ya que al cambiar las tonalidades de las fachadas, sospeché que la imagen se vería particularmente interesante, y así fue.

Here you are mainly looking at Portobello Road, a street with very small shops selling goods, and although the place that seemed to me the most "artisanal and relaxed" in London was Camdentown (I will bring it to Hive shortly), Nothing Hill has a great touch of the artisanal world, which can be appreciated by the products they sell, such as handmade boxes or wooden dolls.

What most caught my attention in this space, was the kettle (or kettle) that advertises one of these stores, and the ALLSAINTS house, full of sewing machines in the window. I remember I took that picture to send it to a friend who loves to make fabrics and clothes herself.

Aquí están viendo principalmente Portobello Road, una calle con locales muy pequeños de venta de artículos, y aunque el lugar que me pareció más “artesanal y relajado” de Londres fue Camdentown (en breve lo traeré a Hive), Nothing Hill tiene un gran toque del mundo artesanal, que puede apreciarse por productos que venden, como alajas hechas a mano o muñecos de madera.

Lo que más me llamó la atención de este espacio, fue la tetera (o pava) que anuncia uno de estos locales, y la casa ALLSAINTS, repleta de máquinas de coser en la vidriera. Recuerdo que tomé esa foto para mandársela a una amiga que ama hacer tejidos y ropa ella misma.
