There aren't multiple versions of the truth if the translations are accurate. It's different with the New World Translation. The Jehovah's Witnesses deliberately mistranslated the Bible to fit their doctrine.

The tithe was for Israel. It was part of the Old Testament Law that was given to the Jews. The tithe, and all the promises that went along with it, are no longer in effect.

Only those who followed Jesus on earth could be called his disciples. It makes more sense for the church to call themselves "Christians" meaning that they follow Christ.
