Will we get more separated due to technological advancements?

We have been seeing lots of technological advancements for the past few decades. Already some of the technological advancements have taken away our enjoyment and the art of speaking to each other. Recently we had a family get together. Both elders and youngsters were busy with their phones throughout the day. It was not very fruitful. There was no interraction. Should we blame the smart phones for that or is humanity changing towards a different direction?
