It's funny how our life can be disturbed by a simple electricity shortage... it makes us all feel exposed, as if society as we know it could crumble in an instant. For a few minutes or even several hours, depending on your luck, you have access to nothing. You are taken back to the dark ages. Or at least to your grandparents time, which amounts to the same to our generations.
These moments force us to use candles to be able to have a tiny source of light which allows you to discern things but not watch them all that well (ok, now you're back to the stone age).
We can't cook and the freezer is turning to water. All the security of what we know is at stake... so we complain. Because we know that the power will be back in a bit. But the restless feeling is still there. And we hide it as we do whenever it shows up by dissimulating and acting.
But now we have mobile phones. You are saved. It's not like some years ago when you were simply fucked and had to deal with it in lack of other options. No... what if you have no battery? And you live alone, with no other mobile phones nearby? Sucks, doesn't it?
I decided to write this because my mobile got broken yesterday... and I really miss it. We are so dependant on everything... that surely shouldn't be the case. You should never be dependent on anything or anyone. Live by yourself, enjoy life and the drunken times and contemplate in awe the solitary ones.
