Monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities.
As the description for this rulesets says, all the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities will be negated in battle, which means that all enemy attacks will go to the monster in the first position, unless there is a monster on the backline with the Taunt ability, in which case it will be attacked first. Additionally, units with the Scattershot ability hit random enemy targets so they have a chance to attack backline monsters.
Monsters with Ranged and Magic attacks are usually the best option with this ruleset, since melee monsters will only be able to attack from first and second position (if they have the Reach ability).
Let's look at some offensive and defensive abilities that work well with this ruleset:
Defensive Abilities
Knowing that monsters with magic and ranged attacks will be used, we can use the Silence or Headwinds abilities to reduce magic or ranged attacks by -1, respectively. In addition, units with the Magic Reflect and Return Fire abilities will deal damage equivalent to the attacker's damage divided by 2, rounded up, if the enemy attacks with magic or ranged monsters, respectively.
Also, if the Melee Mayhem ruleset is active, melee monsters will be able to attack from any position, so the Demoralize ability would be a good choice to reduce the melee attack by -1, and the Thorns ability will deal 2 damage to melee monsters each time they attack.
You can counter the Blast, Thorns,Return Fire, or Magic Reflect abilities with monsters with the Reflection Shield ability, since they are immune to all indirect, or reflected damage.
The Heal, Tank Heal, and Triage abilities will be useful for restoring the health of allied monsters that have taken damage.
Offensive Abilities
Although monsters in the backline cannot be attacked , they can still be damaged by monsters with the Blast ability, allowing them to deal additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster (the additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up). You can take advantage of this by using Martyr monsters in the second position, who upon death, adjacent monsters will get +1 to all stats making them stronger.
You can use monsters with the Bloodlust ability as they get stronger if they defeat a monster, gaining +1 to all stats.
If you want to do more damage, you can use monsters with the Double Strike ability that will attack twice each round doing a lot of damage.
Fire & Regret
Odd Ones Out
Fog of War
All Monsters have the Return Fire ability.
Only Monsters with odd Mana costs may be used in battles.
Monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities.
STHISPA
Mana: 4 | ★ Level: 2 Rarity: Epic | Edition: Riftwatchers All friendly Monsters receive the Phase ability at the start of the battle.
In this battle I decided to use this dragon summoner to be able to play with dragon units and also knowing that the best option would be to play monsters with magic attack since the Fire & Regret and Fog of War rulesets are active, this summoner's ability will allow my monsters a chance to evade magic attacks (using the same hit/miss calculation as for Melee and Ranged attacks).
In first position, this powerful dragon will be the main target of enemies thanks to its Taunt ability, it also has the Void Armor ability: magic attacks hit this monster's armor before its health. In addition, it has Flying, which allows it a 25% chance to evade Melee or Ranged attacks from non-flying monsters.
In second position, this big tank monster will attack twice thanks to its Double Strike ability. It also has the Reach ability that allows it to attack from the second position.
In third position, this rat has a special ability Martyr: who upon death, adjacent monsters will get +1 to all stats. This unit will die on the second turn from its own attack because the Fire & Regret ruleset is active.
In fourth position, I decided to use a monster with the Resurrect ability to take advantage of the Martyr ability, since if my Venari Rat dies first, it will come back to life and could use its Martyr ability again.
I wanted to use this fish in fourth position, but it's better that my Oshuur gets the buff from my Venari Marksrat instead of this unit. Although it has no abilities, at least it only costs 1 mana and has armor, so it's not bad at all.
Finally, in last position, my last monster in the battle with the Resurrect ability will be this water unit that will probably resurrect my Martyr rat to activate its ability again, making the Titan very strong.
My monsters get the Phase ability thanks to Sthispa's ability.
Enemy magic monsters gain Magic Attack, thanks to Obsidian's ability.
Round 1: All monsters remain alive.
Round 2: Enemy Runemancer Florre destroys ☠️Agor Longtail, but Oshuur's ability brings it back to life.
_ Enemy Djinn Biljka defeats ☠️Agor Longtail, who is resurrected again thanks to River Hellondale's ability.
_ ☠️Venari Marksrat dies from its own attack and adjacent monsters get +1 to all stats thanks to its Martyr ability.
When the Fog of War ruleset is active, we don't have to worry as much about the monsters in our backline, since the monster in the first position will be the main target for enemies, except with monsters with the Scattershot ability that with its random attacks will damage them.
In this battle my strategy was very simple, I used two units with the Resurrect ability for a chance for the martyr ability to trigger 3x, but Agor Longtail died first, so it was the one who come back to life twice but it was good anyway, it revived with 1 HP but full armor being a powerful tank monster.
Agor took most of the damage from enemy attacks, and thanks to that, its allies destroyed the enemy lineup without any problem.
