It rained heavily for about thirty minutes today, the kind of rain you don’t see coming until it's there. The weather was dull for the rest of the day, smooth and quiet. The rain was accompanied by an equally heavy swirl of emotions. It affirmed some feelings my heart had been trying to let out for a few days.
I have come to share a sweet sad bond with the rain. Sweet because it reminds me of love. Sad because it reminds me of the loss of said love. Today’s rain happened to be a little more sentimental for me. Yet today I am comforted still because the universe shared a part of itself with me (us).
It’s Father’s Day! Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers in the house. May their hearts be filled with gratitude, knowing that their roles as fathers are cherished, appreciated, and admired. It is beautiful watching everyone use this moment to acknowledge and appreciate the immeasurable joy fathers bring to our families. Their strength, poor jokes, and unwavering love remain the cornerstones of our happiness. I am grateful for the privilege to experience the love of a father. This experience has shaped my life in ways that continue to inspire me to keep the light alive.
I have been missing my dad heavily since the beginning of last week. I think about him every day. Last week was especially intense. I had no idea Father’s Day was around the corner. Welp, here it is, a yearly reminder of a terrible loss.
My dad was the warmest and kindest of hearts. He was a man who believed in the goodness of humanity. His life was large and often complex but he spoke the simplest of languages- LOVE.
My dad had unwavering support for me. I could always count on him. I love how fathers empower their loved ones to pursue their dreams, overcome obstacles, and embrace their full potential. With a guiding hand and a comforting presence, they inspire confidence, resilience, and a sense of security within their children and partners.
Since his passing, there has been a profound silence in my heart. It’s like my life got quiet. I would never think the disappearance of one voice can drown the noise of the entire world with a heart-wrenching silence.
Over time, I have learned to find comfort in the silence. Whenever I become hyper-aware of this silence, I feel Dad is around the corner.
Today, he visited and comforted me through the steady crystal strands of the rain. Just like he did on the day he passed. The moment the news reached me the sky opened up and wept.
To everyone celebrating Father’s Day without their fathers, to everyone holding on to memories and mundane significance like the rain, to the ones who hurt and wish for a different taste of the wind, I send you the warmest hug.
To the ones with complicated relationships with their fathers, I say continue to breathe. It is Father’s Day, happy or sad.
Grief is a b^tchy reminder that love once and will always live in this heart.
