Beautiful - this looks like a spicebush swallowtail - they do not all have the long 'tails' - there are many types and their tails are long or short. Maybe it is just like a birth defect for her - no tail

My grandmother use to tie a few plastic bags in the tree close to the fruit (just tie it by the handle) - does not look very pretty but makes a noise if birds lands on it or the wind blows so scares them
