Oh, that's my kind of trip. What a wonderful place. The only thing wrong with it was all the people in the streets (last picture). Rail is the way to go, I have found. I once took a flight, to save time, from Majorca to Rome. I needed to get back to New York to register for school on time. I also once rented a car while I was traveling with my sister. She drove. A car accident put a damper on that. The best times for me were the train trips.
I loved the scenery. And, while I ordinarily am very private, I liked meeting people on trains. These were transient relationships. People were often curious about my country, and me. I was certainly curious about them. I once took a 20+ hour train ride from Paris to Madrid--not first class! What an experience. I was young, so I didn't mind standing. I don't think I stood the whole way, but at least part of that train ride. It was packed.
I remember to this day the young Portuguese man we (my travel companion and I) met on the Paris to Madrid train.
All I know about Slovenia is that First Lady Melania Trump was born there. This blog was a revelation.
I agree with your younger daughter: those dragons are transfixing :))
