Los que hacen carbón

Vivir del carbón no es una tarea fácil, ni limpia, ni muy agradable y mucho menos apropiada para la salud. Pero algunas personas han aprendido el arte de fabricar hornos de tierra para hacer carbón.

Living off coal is not an easy task, nor clean, nor very pleasant and much less appropriate for health. But some people have learned the art of making earth ovens to make charcoal.

Es un trabajo duro, que toma tiempo hacer. Primero encontrar los árboles adecuados, cortarlos, trasladarlos hasta el sitio donde se levantará el horno.

This is hard work, which takes time to do. First find the right trees, cut them down, move them to the site where the oven will be made.

Al trabajo de día se le suma el de la noche, pues una vez que el horno está listo para arder, se le debe mantener vigilado para que no arda demasiado rápido o no se apague.

Night work is added to day work, because once the furnace is ready to burn, it must be kept under surveillance so that it does not burn too quickly or go out.

Por una noche y algunas horas del día acompañé en su trabajo a esta familia, me maravillé con la magia de la madera ardiendo. Y agradecí la amabilidad de todos ellos y la tacita de café al amanecer.

For one night and a few hours of the day I accompanied this family in their work, I marveled at the magic of burning wood. And I appreciated the kindness of all of them and the cup of coffee at dawn.
