The older you are, the wiser you become. I have this connection with the older ones in our midst. I love to stay closer to them. There is something that you must always learn from them.
In regards to the topic that we have at hand, I will love to share about this special old lady who Gos have used to bless me and the people around me. My mother in-law. Her name is Esther. She is the first daughter of her mother and because of that she is called "Ada".
Esther is the most beloved mother very close to my heart. I have become too close to her I that I see her as my mom. Because of how close we have become, I love to call her Isii nwada. This is just the pet name that I gave her. Since seven years back when I lost my mum, she became for me another woman that I see as my own mother. She also takes me like her child. She is in her late eighty's. Old and can't see very clearly now, but still moves around in the village doing her little business.
After my wedding with my husband, I somehow noticed that his people have a culture that is against the woman entirely. So, my love for his people began to reduce. At a time, I don't even feel comfortable going down to the village with my husband. Sometimes when he brings the issue of travelling home, I will just give one excuse or the other. I was wondering how they feel treating women like that when they have ladies among them that will one day get married to someone in another place. But this woman with her love made me fall in love again with that place. I noticed it when she started taking sides. If this woman hears that I and her son are having issues, she will immediately call him and start scolding him. She did that more than three times before I realized that she was not joking. She practically draw me close to herself.
SOME OF THE REASON I LOVE HER:
She never treats me like a daughter in-law. She treats me like her own child. She often send us food stuff from the village just to make sure that we are fine. Even when she sells her farm produce in the village, she still try to send us some money for our upkeep. Who does that? What kind of a mother in-law is she? In fact, I had to stop her from sending us money. And it took me a while before I can convince her not to send us money.
She is love personified: Most times when I look at her, all I see is love. She displays love at any given moment. She cares so much about us that sometimes, she don't remember herself.
She hardly pick a fight with me as her daughter in-law. When people stay together, they easily discovers their fault, so, there is this tendency of have problems. But this is not the case with my mother in-law. This is my twenty two years and half in that family. She have never raised her voice at me, and I have never done so myself. She is such a gentle soul.
Ahe loves it when I go visiting and sleep with her in her little bed. The last I visited, she pleaded that I should always come home so as to sleep with her and give her all the gist of things happening in the city where I come from.
This is my mother in-law for you. She is so special to me that I wished she is not just a mother in-law, but my direct mother.
