When was the last time you bought potatoes with crypto? Or eggs... I bet 90% of the people that are reading this post and even the general crypto community's not using crypto as means of payment.
I have the Binance and Crypto.com VISA card and I could say that I'm using cryptocurrencies for all sort of daily spending, but am I really doing that? Because what Binance and Crypto.com do is actually instantly sell the amount of crypto needed for a certain purchase on my behalf and still pay for that shit with dirty fiat.
El Salvador is probably the only true example of crypto mass adoption as a means of payment that we have and even this one isn't exactly what we were expecting from it, and I'm pointing at the Chivo wallet here which is a government-owned wallet and has nothing to do with Decentralization.
There are a few cafeterias across the world that are accepting direct crypto payments but the options are limited. Tesla has a long time ago ditched the "Tesla for crypto" initiative, thus living us with not many options in that regard.
But do people really want to use crypto? Not the majority of the investors/traders I'd say... Most of us are just trying to make more money out of it. The concepts we've "run after" for so many years don't even matter that much.
I know, crypto is not just about payments, in this regard Bitcoin actually sucks, it's more about blockchain governance, staking, and games lately... The blockchain industry is gradually eating the traditional fintech and much more... But...
It doesn't do good at making Bitcoin, USDT or whatever a currency. It could be so simple, though, instead of using the dollars or EUR, or whatever, we could simply pay with HBD, USDT, BUSD or USDC... I pay with USDT... indirectly, because the merchants around here don't accept crypto here, and in order to help me use crypto, Binance is converting my USDTs for cash this way allowing me to spend crypto.
But why aren't companies more into adopting crypto? It's the regulators, man... We've become the slaves of the regulators. A bunch of people decides almost everything we can or can not do in this society. Crypto was supposed to disrupt, but so far it hasn't been more than just another speculative asset.
Maybe one day it will all change. Maybe...
